New God of War Ragnarok skills include incinerating blades

God of War

Several new powers, including elemental supermoves and a variety of shields, will be made available to Kratos in God of War: Ragnarok.

God of War: Ragnarok’s developers have begun teasing the game’s plot. Mihir Sheth and Denny Yeh, lead combat designers, told Game Informer they had new toys to fill up the first God of War’s shortcomings.

“Triangle recalled the axe in the last game,” remarked Sheth. Having the axe made no difference. Triangle switched Blades of Chaos back to an axe. “What if you could do something different with that button – a whole new range of moves?”

Kratos infuses his Leviathan Axe and Blades of Chaos with ice and fire, giving you additional elemental abilities. Ragnarok’s Triangle button unleashes Weapon Signature Moves like Frost Awaken and Whiplash.

You can also choose shields. Ragnarok lets you choose between various bucklers for Kratos, unlike 2018’s God of War.

The Dauntless Shield is quick. If you timing a block correctly, it will glow red, enabling you unleash a powerful stun attack that knocks back adversaries. But after sustaining multiple impacts, it will become unstable.

The Stonewall Shield can’t be parried and favours tankier fighters. Once fully charged, it may launch a ground assault that knocks adversaries off their feet by absorbing enemy hits. The developers are staying mum about the appearance of other shields.

The makers say the game’s combat will test your skills. As you continue, some places will be repopulated with harder opponents, hence Realm Tears fans may expect similar side content.

God of War: Ragnarok releases on PS5 and PS4 on November 9. So, Kratos’ new god-slaying skills will be revealed closer to release.
