PS Plus update reveals Sony ignores Premium subscribers

PS Plus

The upcoming PS Plus bundle may disappoint subscribers.

PS Plus Premium and Extra will get 10 games on August 16. They include Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami, and Yakuza Kiwami 2. Yakuza 0 is the finest entrance point into the main series.

Dead by Daylight challenges four players to fend off a single unstoppable killer. It’s a popular multiplayer slasher and one of the best horror games around.

Bugsnax and Ghost Recon Wildlands will also be available. Bugsnax and Ghost Recon Wildlands both recently joined Xbox Game Pass. All this speaks to PS+ and Game Pass overlap.

Sony’s subscription programme will also include a small selection of older games and indie releases.

Retro games are missing from that list of new games. PS+ Premium lets players download and play vintage PS1, PS2, PSP, and PS3 games. This month’s lineup has no new retro games from Sony.

It’s a duplicate of last month’s PS Plus, which likewise featured only two PSP ports. Sony seems to have forgotten about Premium users, who are getting little monthly advantages for their higher subscription fee.

The redesigned PS Plus platform only launched a few months ago, so Premium users are likely still enjoying the older games offered at launch. Many of the games are just brought over from PlayStation Now.

If future PS Plus monthly lineups don’t include new retro games, Premium users may decide the extra $3 / £2.50 / AU$3 isn’t worth it.
